"Ozempic price" and "how much does Ozempic cost" are among the most frequently searched health queries in Turkey. But this question has no single-item answer: GLP-1 medications (Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, Saxenda, Rybelsus) are weekly or daily treatments that continue for months. So the real question is not "how much is one pen?" but "how much will I have paid in total at the end of 12 months?"
In this article we go through the current figures from the official drug price list dated June 9, 2026, the SGK reimbursement reality, the annual cost calculation along the dose ladder, and the factors that could affect prices in the period ahead.
Current GLP-1 Price List (June 2026)
The figures below are compiled from the official drug price list dated June 9, 2026:
| Medication (active ingredient) | Dose / Package | Approximate Price | Approximate Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ozempic (semaglutide) | 1 mg pen | ~10.643 TL | ~1 month |
| Wegovy (semaglutide) | 1,7 mg pen | ~15.782 TL | 1 month |
| Wegovy (semaglutide) | 2,4 mg pen | ~20.661 TL | 1 month |
| Mounjaro (tirzepatide) | 2,5 mg monthly box | ~12.295 TL | 1 month |
| Mounjaro (tirzepatide) | 5 mg monthly box | ~16.032 TL | 1 month |
| Mounjaro (tirzepatide) | 7,5–10 mg monthly box | ~21.638 TL | 1 month |
| Mounjaro (tirzepatide) | 12,5–15 mg monthly box | ~27.244 TL | 1 month |
| Saxenda (liraglutide) | box of 3 pens | ~6.729 TL | ~18 days at the 3 mg/day dose |
| Rybelsus (oral semaglutide) | tablets, monthly | ~8.000–12.000 TL | 1 month |
The point to watch with Saxenda is that although the box price looks low, with daily use the 3-pen box lasts about 18 days at the full dose, which pushes the monthly cost to roughly the 11-13,5 thousand TL band.

The SGK Reality: No Reimbursement for the Obesity Indication
In Turkey, SGK (the Social Security Institution) does not reimburse GLP-1 medications for the obesity indication. Prescriptions written for weight loss are issued as white (non-reimbursed) prescriptions, and the cost of the medication is covered entirely out of pocket. In other words, the figures in the table above are what a person using these medications for weight management will actually pay.
This makes it necessary to go beyond the monthly price and calculate the total annual cost, because this burden is not shared by any reimbursement mechanism.
The Annual Cost Math: This Is Where the Real Calculation Lies
GLP-1 treatments progress along a dose ladder: you start at a low dose, and as tolerance develops the dose is increased step by step under physician supervision. This means the first months of the year are relatively cheap, while the later months are more expensive.
A rough 12-month calculation looks like this:
- Lower band: In a usage scenario that stays at low-to-mid doses, the annual total comes to roughly 130 thousand TL.
- Upper band: At top-step doses such as Wegovy 2,4 mg or Mounjaro 12,5-15 mg, 12 months of maintenance can approach 260 thousand TL.
So the realistic planning range is approximately 130-260 thousand TL per year.
The less talked-about side of this is the uncertainty around duration. These medications were developed on a chronic-use model; the effect is maintained only as long as use continues. A 2026 systematic review published in the BMJ (37 studies, 9.341 participants) shows that roughly half of users discontinue the medication within 12 months and that, in the GLP-1 subgroup, an average regain of approximately 9,9 kg occurs in the first year after discontinuation (against an average loss of ~14,7 kg). In a meta-analysis of 18 randomized controlled trials covering 3.771 patients, an average regain of +5,63 kg was reported in the 12 months after the medication was stopped.
In cost terms, this means the following: the annual 130-260 thousand TL outlay is not a one-time investment; because a significant portion of the weight can return when the medication is stopped, the spending may also need to continue if the result is to be maintained. Results vary from person to person; but it is realistic to factor this uncertainty into the budget plan.

What Drives Prices? The Exchange-Rate Mechanism and the Generic Wave
Two factors could change the picture in the period ahead:
1. The exchange-rate mechanism. In Turkey, drug prices are set through a mechanism indexed to foreign exchange rates, and GLP-1 prices have risen over the year because of this mechanism. As exchange-rate updates continue, list prices are likely to keep moving upward.
2. The generic semaglutide outlook. Generic versions of semaglutide are expected to enter the Turkish market with the 2026 wave. Generic competition generally pulls prices down — which, to be honest, means prices could fall for those in a position to wait. However, the timing of entry, which doses will arrive, and the size of the discount are not clear today. Rather than tying the treatment decision solely to a "will prices drop?" expectation, a healthier approach is to plan on the current figures and follow developments together with your physician.

One-Time or Monthly Recurring? A Framework for Comparison
When planning costs, it is important to see the structural difference. GLP-1 medications rest on a monthly recurring spending model: a new pen every month, a new price at every dose step. The swallowable gastric balloon program, by contrast, is a one-time procedure: the balloon is swallowed, occupies stomach volume for about 4 months, and nutrition and lifestyle follow-up continues throughout the program. In clinical studies, the balloon program's average is %14,9 total body weight loss (Ienca 2020, 1.770 patients), and in a follow-up study of 522 patients, %95 of patients were reported to have maintained their weight loss at 1 year. The Allurion system also received FDA approval in February 2026.
The aim here is not to present the balloon as a "rival" to the medications — the two approaches suit different profiles and are increasingly considered together, as an exit strategy from medication or as a companion to it. Which method suits whom is a clinical decision; for a data-based comparison of the two approaches, see gastric balloon vs GLP-1 (2026).

The Decision Is Made with a Physician, Not with a Price Table
A price list is necessary for planning, but not sufficient. Who GLP-1 medications are suitable for, at what dose and for how long they will be used, the side-effect profile, and accompanying conditions — all of these are matters that require physician assessment. Likewise, the gastric balloon is not suitable for everyone; it is considered under physician supervision for people over 18 within specific BMI ranges. No weight loss method offers a 100% guarantee; results vary from person to person.
As a first step, you can see your own range with our BMI calculator, and then discuss the options with your physician.
