Is it suitable for you?
The programme is considered for adults aged 18 and over, typically with a BMI of 27 or above. It is not suitable for everyone — including people with certain digestive conditions or previous stomach surgery. The final decision is always made by a clinician after your screening consultation.

The risks, stated plainly
We'd rather you read this here than discover it later. Most people experience nausea, cramps or reflux in the first days — your clinic provides a comfort-medication plan for this. Rare but serious risks include gastric outlet obstruction, small bowel obstruction and gastric perforation. In rare cases of intolerance or early deflation, the balloon may need to be removed endoscopically.
Seek immediate medical attention if you develop severe or persistent abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, a swollen abdomen or difficulty breathing — and inform your programme coordinator. In the UK, that means NHS urgent care first; we then coordinate with your clinic.
The programme operates under Allurion's strengthened international patient-safety framework: consent documentation covering all contraindications, a patient information card you carry during the programme, and a defined device-incident process. Treatment takes place in Türkiye under Turkish healthcare regulation; we are transparent about that, and about what it means for follow-up — which is exactly why the remote-monitoring programme exists.

Is the gastric balloon procedure risk-free?+
No medical procedure is risk-free. Most people experience nausea or stomach cramps in the first days, managed with a comfort-medication plan. Rare but serious risks include gastric outlet obstruction, small bowel obstruction and gastric perforation; in rare cases the balloon is removed early by endoscopy. Your clinic explains all risks during the consent process, and you receive a patient information card and clear red-flag guidance.

If you ever develop severe or persistent symptoms, you should seek urgent medical care in the UK and inform your coordinator — we coordinate with your clinic.
